Finding My Signature Style Statement: Authentic, Fun, Confidence Builder

Seriously, I wanted to choose 10 adjectives. I am kind, right? Honest - yes, organized, passionate, helpful, cheerful, fun - yes.… the list goes on.
It seemed like a simple assignment. Review the worksheet and pick two adjectives and one noun that would ultimately convey my Signature Style Statement. Sounds easy enough, right?
Well then, why was I struggling? I did not feel that two simple words could define me - or anyone, for that matter. And the other question going through my mind was: how do these words have anything to do with my Signature Style Statement?
It took me a minute to realize this was not about defining me, but rather, defining how I wanted to present myself, how I wanted to show up every day. Deep breath! The thing is, style is personal, and it often evolves as we move through various stages of life.
As a teenager and young adult, I wanted to dress like my friends, be one of the in-crowd, even if the styles were not flattering choices for me.
I also had some significant self-esteem issues at this point in my life which made it difficult to recognize the gifts I had to offer and I generally just wanted to blend in. One of the blessings of moving into my 40s and beyond has been learning that style is unique and personal — there is no right or wrong style. Once I stopped dressing to fit in and started dressing in a manner that aligned with my personal values, I started to feel like my true self. I finally had an opportunity to choose how I wanted to show up in life.
It’s About Authenticity and Fun!
Some thoughtful reflection made it clear that Authentic was one of my words. I want to present as the best version of ME and I needed to do so in an authentic manner. Many women identify with a specific style like Classic, Natural Chic, or Fashionista. My style, however, pulls in components of several style types so there was no magic formula. Being authentic means that I present as my true self in a manner that makes me feel confident and well put together.
With one adjective under my belt, I quickly recognized that Fun was the missing link. I enjoy a bit of whimsy and fun in my wardrobe (and my life). I enjoy adding a fun touch to my look with jewelry, shoes, bags, and fun prints, colors, and sometimes a little boho detail. Life is short and I love to add in elements that make me smile.
One of the things I have struggled with for years is footwear. I love shoes and wish I could wear some nice strappy heels or pumps. Alas, due to foot issues, that ship has sailed. But footwear has come a long way over the last decade with many brands creating shoes that combine style and comfort. YAY!
One of my favorite brands is Vivaia! They carry shoes that are both attractive and comfortable. I will admit that they are almost an obsession for me! My collection includes dress shoes, athletic shoes, boots and many fun and whimsical flats. I often receive compliments on my fun shoes and am often asked where I got them.
So, instead of forcing my feet into shoes that do not feel good, I get to express my personality in a way that does not sacrifice my foot health and comfort!
This is my current crush! I am in love with this sweet charm style. What about you?

And Now for the Noun
Thrilled to have selected my two adjectives, I set about identifying my noun. Again, I struggled with narrowing it down but ultimately settled on Confidence Builder. Why?
Because I am naturally a lifter. I believe that we are lifted when we lift others up. I have mentored many women professionally when I was in corporate America. It was something I was passionate about. My role as a stylist gives me the same opportunity. One of my gifts is being an encourager, mentor and helper. Confidence Builder seems to wrap all of these up into one. Striving to offer hope, validation, and encouragement to others is a personal goal of mine that brings me great joy.
So there you have it…..my Signature Style Statement is Authentic, Fun, Confidence Builder. Three words that took me weeks to land on, but that now guide every styling decision I make — for myself and for the women I work with.
